About: My interest in woodworking started in the late 1990s as a hobby as it provided a nice break from my job as a software engineer.  I enrolled in various woodworking classes.  In particular, two semesters at a community college studying Japanese joinery techniques greatly enhanced my interest in hand tools.  Eventually, I found myself enrolled in the two-year fine woodworking program at North Bennet Street School in Boston.  After that, my wife and I ended up in Ashland Oregon in 2010 where, to my delight, I discovered that Ashland was the home of the wonderful Siskiyou Woodcraft Guild!

Description of piece: The Greene brothers designed houses and furniture in the early 1900’s. Their style is called the Greene & Greene style. This chair is a faithful reproduction of 2 chairs designed by the Greene brothers and built by the Hall brothers around 1908 for the Blacker House in Pasadena, California. They fused the angular and masculine Arts & Crafts style with Art Nouveau and Oriental influences that emphasize natural forms and curves. Primary wood is mahogany with accents made with white oak, purple heart, ebony, and silver. Seat is a hand-tied sprung seat done in the traditional manner.
